For the very first time, the two new Olympic sports, Breaking and 3×3 Basketball, will join forces during a historic event at the iconic Gashouder in Amsterdam. This unique coming together of sports and culture promises to be a spectacular experience for all fans and participants.
Last year, the Amsterdam Breaking Championships presented by Odido & Samsung was held for the first time at the Centrale Markthal in Amsterdam. Here they competed for the National titles for 1 vs 1 and the International Crew Battles. Sardjoe, Demierre and the Hustle Kidz took the win. Inside Amsterdam’s Centrale Markthal, a special stadium had been built for this championship with a circle in the middle of the stadium as a battleground for intense Breaking battles.
The Markthal also provided ample space for side events such as the Voetjes van de Vloer dance festival, where young and old alike enjoyed a unique combination of sports and culture of the highest order. And with this first edition of Amsterdam Breaking Championships, presented by Odido & Samsung, Amsterdam confirms its reputation as Urban Sport Capital.
This year, this event joins forces with 3×3 Basketball to create an even bigger and more impressive spectacle. The Gashouder, a famous historic building in the heart of Amsterdam, will be the venue for this groundbreaking event.
About Breaking
Breaking, also known as breakdancing, is a dance style that emerged in the United States in the 1970s. It took shape at bustling block parties in the Bronx, spawned from hip-hop culture, and is characterized by acrobatic moves, clever footwork and the “key” role played by the DJ and MC during battles.
In the 1990s, international competitions were first held around the world, making the dance form popular among both hip-hop communities and the general public.
